Free, Premium about $40 a year in the US · iPhone, Android, web

Geocaching (the official app)

Best for: everyone, and the place to start

Made by Geocaching HQ. A free account shows some caches; Premium unlocks most caches and extra tools. Prices vary by country, so check the app for yours.

Simple loop: go somewhere, find the container, sign the log, log it in the app.

Free · iPhone and Android

Adventure Lab

Best for: guided, story-style routes

Also from Geocaching HQ. Adventures are a series of stops with questions or stories and no physical container, so they can even be indoors. There are more than 50,000 public Adventures, and some features, like previewing a location, are for Premium members.

Free · Android only

c:geo

Best for: Android power users

An unofficial, open-source app for geocaching.com, with offline lists, filters and waypoint tools. It was still being updated in 2026. It isn’t available on iPhone.

Free · iPhone and Android

Munzee

Best for: a faster, more game-like hunt

Instead of a logbook, you scan QR codes placed in the real world to score points, so play moves quickly. It was still being updated in 2026.

5

Free · iPhone and Android

Pokémon GO

Best for: the biggest location game

Not a geocaching app, but if you like going places for a reason, it’s the most popular location game there is.

Free · iPhone (iOS 26 or later)

Tripwire Recon

Best for: team play instead of hidden boxes

Not a cache app either. It’s a team capture-the-flag game on real streets in New Orleans, with four factions, clans and leaderboards.

Disclosure: Tripwire Recon is made by Edge Orbital, the company behind Krewe of Play.
